Job Description

Job title:            Foreign Expert

Salary standard and benefits:

 Salary is calculated on an annual basis, divided into ten equal monthly payments. Salary is not paid in the months of February and August
Starting salary is determined by the qualification level of the employee. Successful candidates with a bachelor degree shall receive a starting salary of 120,000 RMB per-year. 

Employees with a Masters degree shall receive a starting salary of 135,000 RMB per-year. Successful candidates with a PhD shall receive a starting salary of 150,000 RMB per-

year. Successful candidates with a large amount of teaching experience may be offered a starting salary which exceeds these guidelines; this shall be decided following negotiations.
  Successful candidates shall receive the following benefits annually:

Hours:               10-15 classroom teaching hours (45 minutes each)+ 4 office hours (45 minutes each)/ weekly

Purposes of the Position (Teaching Objectives of Foreign Experts)

1.      To raise students’ interest and enthusiasm in learning and using English

2.      To improve students’ English competence, especially their spoken and written English.

3.      To cultivate students’ abilities in cross-cultural communication.

4.      To ensure that students will be able to pass the IELTS speaking / writing tests and achieve at least Band 6 within one year.

Key Responsibilities and Duties
1. Regular teaching requirements for two 16-week semesters
a.      Teach Spoken English to around 60-90 students in 4-6 class sections of around15     students each. Goals for this instruction are to improve students’ spoken English proficiency in their academic studies and to achieve an IELTS score of 6.0 or above. 

b.      Teach Written English to the same 60-90 students in 2-3 class sections of around 30     students each. Goals for this instruction are to improve students’ written English proficiency in their academic studies and to achieve an IELTS score of 6.0 or above.

c.       Office Hours are required weekly and instructors must be available on campus 4-6 classroom hours every week for the purpose of offering tutorials in both spoken and written English.

d.      Teach Advanced Courses to second year students.

2.Other activities relevant to regular teaching requirements:

a.        Create a syllabus, reading list and course requirements for distribution to students on the first day of class and plan lessons to meet learning outcomes.
b.        Plan regular formative assessments, prepare and mark test papers, give oral tests and submit final grades, some extra weekend work will be involved in this regard.
c.    Attend staff meetings and other duties as assigned, including giving some additional lectures concerning western cultures, curriculum development and curriculum review and participate in professional development activities as scheduled.

Note: We normally have 16 weeks of teaching in each semester, but another 2 weeks is needed for each semester to prepare the beginning of the semester and mark test papers, give oral tests and submit final grades at the end of the semester

Basic requirements

1.      The native language of candidates must be English.

2.      Candidates should have a master’s degree from a recognised university and at least two years relevant teaching experience.

3.      Candidates should have a teaching certificate recognised in their own country or an internationally recognised language teaching certificate.(TESOL/TEFL certificate 

CELTA or equivalent preferred)

4.      At least 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in universities or training organizations, and related to IELTS speaking and writing (IELTS & University experience desirable).

university, Candidates are required to undergo a medical examination as part of the visa application process prior to coming to China. Any costs associated with this should be borne by the candidate

Work Conditions and Location of Work

Instruction takes place in Beijing and instructors will be expected to be on campus from one week prior to the start of classes through to the end of each semester.  Instructors will establish and post regular office hours to be available to meet with students. Work hours may include some evening or weekend hours.

Benefits of Working at University

1.       Low number of contract hours: 14-21 classroom hours (45 minute periods) weekly.

2.       Long vacations: Teachers will work two semesters in an academic year. Eash semester should feature no more than 16 weeks of teaching followed by a two-week examination period. Outside of this, teachers are not required to work, meaning lengthy summer and winter vacation periods.

3.       A salary increase of 5% upon signing a contract extension at the end of the first year. For subsequent contract extensions there shall be a salary increase of 5% every two years.
