Designation : Lecturer/Teacher

Salary Range   : RMB5,000 to RMB8,000-0 depending on experience

Tax : Will be borne by the employee/independent contractor.

Housing :  Furnished Local accommodation

Flight Reimbursement:   To be advised depending on where the applicant is, or we are willing to reimburse flight tickets up to RMB5,000-00 per year of service

Work Visa application fees: Sponsored by University in Guilin and the cost of processing will be provided at our cost

Health Care and Medical Assistance: A Comprehensive Insurance and Protection Scheme for Foreigner working in China will be provided.

Coverage: Death/Accidental Disability, Outpatient and Hospitalisation Medical  Insurance.

Number of Paid Leave: 1 day per month of service or part thereof. Leave shall only be taken between semester during summer and winter break

Exception shall be subject to availability of replacement teachers and approval of the Academic Lead.

Unutilised leave will be paid at the end of the financial year or as part of their final pay.

Public Holiday: Shall be based on Host Location.

Governing Law : Malaysian Labor Law.

Mode:  Short term 18 weeks semester, Long term:  1 year or two years contract.

Program: English for Academic Purposes

Location Base  :University in Guilin, China

Reporting to: Academic Program Leader (ACL)

 

Job Purpose:

This is a fixed term contract to teaching English for Academic Purpose Program for international students on pathway to UK University program.

 

Job Dimension:

-      Up to 25 hours per week for a period of 18 weeks per semester

-      Ability to teach students with a range of English proficiency level

-      Ability to assess effectiveness of teaching skills against student’s progress and performance

-      Ability to work in a team environment with different nationalities and culture

-      Be aware of the needs of learners in a China context.  

-      Ability to work with different stakeholders ; including but not limited to students’ parents, sponsors and other external  stakeholders

 

Person Specification

Education/Qualification:

-      Bachelor degree in any discipline

-     TEFL/TESOL certification

-      Minimum 2 year experience preferred.

 Those without may be employed and    training will be provided.

Knowledge and skills:

-      Excellent command of written and spoken English

-      Able to teach varying levels and have good sensitivity to weaker learners.

-      Flexibility to adapt the curriculum or teaching methods to respond to the need of learner in the China context.

-      Ability to make decisions around session plans, lesson contents, sequencing and assessment of students.

-      Good cultural intelligence and sensitivity.

-      Ability to adapt and respond to change and meeting job purpose and client’s expectation. 

Key Accountabilities:

1)    Act as a positive ambassador for our University 

2)    Teach English for Academic Purpose and IELTS to International students according to the prescribed syllabus. 

3)    Develop purposeful and appropriate lesson plans that provide for effective teaching strategies and meet individual needs of students.

4)    Work in a team environment with all the other teachers and the Academic Lead to prepare, select and use appropriate teaching and learning materials for international students

5)    Contribute to program/ module development, organization and management of the EAP Program

6)    Conduct both formative and summative evaluation in a timely manner and provide oral and written feedback to students and other external stakeholders, where appropriate.

7)    Contribute to the wider student experience by providing academic support for students assigned to them through consultation and personal tutorial, where required.

8)    Carry out administrative and record keeping and data entry in our University – Student Management System associated with attendance, teaching and assessment.

9)    Provide teaching cover in the absence of other colleagues

10)  Participate in induction programs, social events, briefing sessions, staff development. Departmental meetings as required.
