Position Information
Recommendation Letter 1

Dear Prospective Teachers,

My name is Mary and I taught at this University from 2009 - 2011.  I have a bachelor's degree in education from Guilford College and a master's in education from South Carolina State University. Neither a master's degree nor training and experience in education are required to teach English at This University.
You just need a bachelor's degree in any subject and an open mind.  I loved my experience there!  I retired early in the US and found this opportunity to teach in China was perfect for me.

An adequate support system is essential when you arrive in China. Leanne, the foreign affairs officer at This University , assisted me from my first day to my last!  Having taught at another school, I can assure you that a good FAO is essential to a good experience.  Leanne was available to assist me in navigating visa requirements and university expectations as well as finding a hair dresser and the night market.  The students were also extremely friendly and helpful. I always had someone to accompany me if I wanted to go shopping and needed a translator.

This University is in the city of Jinzhou, a place with amazing food - the best I had in China!  There are nearby mountains, beaches and towns for exploration. Beijing is only a three hour train ride away. Weekend trips to the world class city were a real treat! We visited museums, art districts and historical sites. Younger people would enjoy the night life.

I encourage you to consider This University for your foreign teaching experience.

Good luck!

Mary

Recommendation letter 2

My name is Susan. I'm American.  My BA degree is from UMass Amherst where I majored in China: Culture, Society and People.   I first came to teach atThis University in 1994-1997.  I have been back a number of times both to visit and to teach.  In fact, I'm on my way back again in a few weeks.

Why do I keep returning to Jinzhou and This University, because of the great staff in the International Education Center.  My room is quite comfortable, the staff always smile whenever I need assistance, and I love my students.

If you want to experience the "real China" this is surely the place to go.  Teaching hours are quite reasonable, there is a sense of welcome on the campus. No fuss getting paid!  I love the food in this small city of 1 million people.  There were only 700,000 when I first arrived in 1994.  Jinzhou has now doubled in size.  There is plenty of heat in the winter, which is important.  Not too far from hills to climb and the ocean to enjoy.  There is a great museum from the Liaoshan Campaign of 1948.

Whenever I'm there, I stay quite busy.  Please consider coming and enjoying your stay!

Susan

Jinzhou is a small city in China with a population of about 800,000. It is 450 km NE of Beijing, about 3.5 hours by train; 80 minutes by train from Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province; 2 hours from Dalian (considered the Hong Kong of the north). People in our city are very friendly to foreigners and it is very convenient to live here.

The English teachers will mainly teach oral English. Our students know English grammars before they come to our school. However their oral and listening English are not good enough. So we need foreign teachers to help the students learn to speak and listen correctly. The students are all in their early twenties. In each class, there are about 30 students. The teaching load here is 16 teaching hours at most (eight classes, each teaching hour is 50 minutes) a week, from Mon. to Fri.

We supply our foreign teachers with furnished apartments on campus, including TV, washing machine, fridge, air-conditioning, computer with internet access, microwave oven, shower, and all the other necessary living facilities. The kitchen is shared and contains an oven, a bread maker, stoves and all the other cooking facilities.

The monthly payment is a minimum of 5500 RMB. When converted into US dollars, I know this seems like a paltry salary, however, you must consider the cost of living in Jinzhou is not high at all. It is much lower than some of the big cities in China such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. We also supply 2200 yuan holiday allowance each year. After completing a one-year contract, we supply a round trip air ticket and after a one semester contract, we supply a one way air ticket home. If you are interested in learning Chinese, you can join our foreign students’ Chinese classes for free if your schedule allows it. Some of our former teachers learn Chinese quite well in this way. Our summer holiday and winter holiday for foreign teachers are quite long, almost two months each. Foreign teachers who have one-academic-year contract get one holiday with full salary. If a teacher signs a new contract after one year, he or she can have another full-paid salary—continuous salary.

We have 3 or 4 foreign teachers each term. If you want to contact any of our former or current foreign teachers to learn more about our university or our city, please let me know. I will give you their email addresses or phone numbers.

OK. So much for now. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask me.

Welcome to our University!

English teachers will mainly teach oral English. Our students are all in their early twenties. In each class, there are about 30 students. The teaching load is 16 to 32 teaching hours (8 to 16 classes, each teaching hour is 50 minutes) a week, from Mon. to Fri. There are 16 weeks in each semester.
Our monthly salary is from 6000 yuan to 12000 yuan according to the teaching load. When you compare the salary, please also consider the living cost, which is not high in our city. In fact, most of teachers save quite a lot of money at the end of the contract since what you need to pay is only for your food, phone and travel.
We provide furnished apartments on campus for our teachers including all necessities. Airfare allowance, vacation allowance, insurance and holiday with full pays are all provided. If you like to study Chinese, there are free Chinese lessons for you.
In short, if you are looking for a job not just for making money, our university will be a great choice for you.
