Position Information
I am Director at the International school in Karamay. We use a Nova Scotia curriculum and employ only teachers who are (or can be) certified in NS - see NS Teacher certification website to determine if you qualify - https://certification.ednet.ns.ca/standards I believe your Education Diploma is most important besides your bachelor's degree. We welcome experienced English teacher to Karamay. We need a teacher for 2015-16 for the following classes over two semesters: Teacher 1 ENG 10, 11, 12 The classes are small, 15-25 students, with a spectrum of academic and English language skills. The students are friendly and cooperative and, like most adolescents, respond well to someone who demonstrates care and concern. The school has many resources including a well-equipped drama room with stage and lighting dimmer board/sound mixer for presentations, a multimedia room with 20 computers and hundreds of text/video resources. There is a reasonably equipped general science lab for Science 10, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Each classroom (including drama room) has an online computer, smart board and video projector with a video cam/opaque/OH projector combined. All NS curriculum material is provided along with access to many ELL resources. There is a full gymnasium with weight/exercise room and outdoor facilities for PE use. The job entails teaching approximately 25 hours per week with additional 30-60 minutes extra curricular/club time per week. The schedule is a rotating 7-day cycle; each teacher will have one prep period on six of the 7 days. The classes will be scheduled from 9:00 to 5:30 (with 2:25 h lunch break and another 60 mins of breaks in between), so lunch and evenings are available for marking and preparation. This program is based on Nova Scotia curriculum and would require your agreement to seek NS Certification. This would permit flexible options for other future employment with Pattison EG or others who have NS agreements. My wife and I have felt very comfortable here and it is our first experience in China. My wife says, "Lots of beautiful walking streets, nice parks, lots of options for grocery and other shopping." We have enjoyed many of the local restaurants and have felt very welcome wherever we went. Based on discussions with other western teachers in China, we think we made the right choice. "It is a nice place to live." The air is clean, much cleaner than in other Chinese cities as are the streets. Traffic is busy but not dangerous as in some cities including those in Canada. We have spent time with our hosts, with Chinese co-workers and have made new friends.
